I am very glad that you want to champion free software in Tamil Nadu.

I am sure FSF India will be glad to work with you, if you approach
them properly, asking to work together.  So I have cc'd this message
to the FSF India board.

You're also welcome to work for the movement on your own,
if you prefer to do things that way.  There are already many
organizations that work for free software, around the world,
and people are welcome to start new ones.

Dear Pawan,

You are aware of the issues and concerns raised during the chennai event
that you organised. However since there is an initiative i request you
and your team to integrate with the broad movement happenning accross
the country.

We at FSF India are concerned and wish to know how we could co-ordinate
in spreading the ideals of free software and fighting the proprietary
systems.

Please get back on this as soon as possible.

Regards
Kiran Chandra

Kiran,

The inspiration to the group here is the ideals of free software. We area
team that is greatly inspired by the ideological reasons of freesoftware
and not just the course of pragmatism attributed to itotherwise. We have
been reading through the writings of Richard Stallman, who otherwise is our
virtual mentor. Some of our friends here who heard you speak on free
software at hyderabad came up with theidea.
This initiative took free software into many educational institutions and
brought already present groups together. Our first Workshop on Free
Software, saw over 50 engineering college students coming from Pondicherry
as well and 200 students from Chennai spanned for two weekends. The focus
in the workshop was not only on the technical, but the ideological aspects
of Free Software as well. As a continuation to this workshop, the
convention organized by us opened new avenues for our work by bringing IT
professionals.
But the group was perturbed with the accusation attaching us with political
organisations. The idea of using the logo came from feeling that we belong
to the movement. It was similar to using the word "GNU" or its logo in our
college level GNU/Linux User Groups.
The group had a meeting on receiving your mail. We would like to associate
at a national level in fighting for freedom and keeping the proprietary
systems out.

Thanks & Regards
Pawan Saxena
